ARRIVAL IN NURMES
The Summer Academy starts in Nurmes on Monday 8 July with an info session for all participants in the Kirkkokatu school canteen. Arrival in Nurmes and accommodation at the lovely wood-structured Kirkkokatu school (address: Kirkkokatu 15) takes place on Sunday 7 July from 16:00 to 21:00. Please register in the lobby of the Kirkkokatu school when you arrive. If you cannot make it to this schedule, please let us know in advance.
You can get to Nurmes by public transport, both by train and bus. There aren’t too many buses and trains per day, so please look at the schedules and buy tickets well in advance. Carpools can be requested and offered in the Summer Academy's Facebook event (Sukset ristiin susirajalla). The teaching and accommodation facilities of the Summer Academy are at Kirkkokatu 15, which is 600 meters from the railway and bus station. Those arriving by car can find parking spaces in the Kirkkokatu school yard.
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation takes place in the Kirkkokatu primary school, address Kirkkokatu 15.
You can arrive to stay on from 4 pm onward on Sunday 7 July. School classrooms will need to be cleaned and handed over by 12 noon on Sun 14 July. The Summer Academy provides mattresses for participants, please make sure you bring other bedding and towels. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed in the accommodation.
EATING
Lovely vegetarian food is available three times a day; breakfast, lunch and dinner, which are served in the canteen of Kirkkokatu middle school. Allergies declared during registration are taken into account and the chef may contact participants with allergies beforehand.
COURSES
Summer Academy students have lessons every day in the following art subjects; expressive contemporary dance, creative writing, experimental visual arts and crafts, street dance/freestyle and landscapes of kantele and voice. For a more detailed description of teachers and courses, see courses and teachers. A more detailed schedule will be sent to participants by email along with the information letter.
REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT
Summer Academy registration opens on Tue 26 March 2024 and closes on Sun 19 May 2024. Registration for the Summer Academy is done on the website using the Registration form. When registering, a reservation fee of 100€ is paid. This is how you ensure your place at this desired academy. You can also pay the full price of 360€ at once.
Payment instructions: The Academy fee of €360 or the booking fee of €100 is paid into the account
